INDIVIDUAL DONOR
Accelerating Therapeutic Development for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms
Bridging science with empathy was central to the success of this proposal, which helped to secure an eight-figure gift.
The Opportunity
A donor with a rare blood cancer was in the unique position to create a research accelerator fund that could save his life and those of others. Given the nature of his condition as a rare disorder, this research could only happen within an academic medical institution, outside of the pharmaceutical industry—with an impact that much more transformational to anyone with this condition.
The Process
We articulated the weight of chronic illness alongside the hope that comes with being in a position to change the course one’s own disease. Of equal importance was careful description of recent and continuing clinical trials and collaborations that made our institution stand out among others working toward a cure.
